In the first quarter of the year Tianjin Port set a new record of 20.4 percent growth of container throughput hitting 4.47 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), according to Tianjin Port (Group) Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, its cargo throughput reached 110 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 14.9 percent, marking a good start of the year.
The port, an important junction of land and sea routes under the Belt and Road Initiative, is a key international shipping hub.
It actively serves and facilitates the increasing exports of its neighboring Beijing and Hebei provinces and general northern regions. New land routes and maritime lines were launched by the port this year to extend its geographic coverage and service offerings.
Since the beginning of this year, over 100 China-Europe freight trains loaded with cars, auto parts and other cargo have departed from Tianjin Port.
It cooperates with ports on the Bohai rim and the daily sea transport will help intensify regional connections and keep growth steady.
In addition, it also advances land-sea transport service for interior areas, which promotes the export of walnuts from the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and sunflower seeds from Inner Mongolia.
